Since 2010 the IEBMA serves as a support point for the referral of injured wild animals to organizations authorized to carry out medical treatment and rehabilitation, such as the Municipal Environment Department, INEA and Petrobras conditioning entities, such as the CTA.
Due to human or even natural factors, such as floods and drought, the IEBMA has been carrying out the recovery of degraded areas since 1996, always based on impact studies carried out by qualified entities such as INEA or authorized NGOs, such as the planting of 500 seedlings in the village of Caravelas , together with local residents, coordinated by Prima Mata Atlântica e Sustentabilidade, held in March 2021.
With the help of the Beach Club auditorium, provided by the Hotel Apa Pau Brasil, the IEBMA holds lectures, forums and debates with the Government, environmental and cultural entities, in addition to carrying out activities open to the community.
From Tuesday to Sunday, with the support of the Hotel APA Pau Brasil, ecological walks with trained guides are carried out on two important trails in this location where, during the route, explanations are given about the ecosystem and how to collaborate with its preservation . The trails also serve as an opportunity to monitor compliance with conservation laws, such as not using motorcycles on the trails, identifying traps for illegally capturing wild animals and other degradation actions.

The marsupials that live in the Atlantic Forest, such as the opossum, the cuícas and the quaint ones, differ in appearance, size and use of the different ‘layers’ of the forest (ground, understory and crowns). Informal observations of the behavior of some species, carried out in field research by the IEBMA, led to discoveries about the ecology of these species, contributing to the development of future studies and to the preservation of the Atlantic Forest . The municipality of Búzios has a large presence of these animals in urban areas of the municipality, in part due to the advance of deforestation. These animals are brought to the Institute and we make the correct replacement of them in their natural environment.
With support from the Civil Association of Praia das Caravelas Village (ACVPC), the IEBMA cleans the sands of Praia das Caravelas, public roads, removes waste left by visitors in the vegetation on the banks of the Villa, cooperative maintenance of public spaces such as Praça das Caravels (Pyramid Square).
